Encourage children to participate if they are interested but do
not force them if they are not.
Focus on enjoying the sport and reduce the emphasis on winning.
Remember, your children are in the sport for their enjoyment.
Ensure that children play by the rules and direction of judges,
coaches and officials.
A child learns by example. Good sportsmanship is applauding the
opposition regardless of the outcome.
Don't criticise coaches or children in public, reserve
constructive criticism for more private moments. Performance
criticism should by left to the coach.
No coaching from the audience and for parents of gymnasts, do
not gesture or make eye contact during a competition. Your child
could risk disqualification from the event.
Accept the judges decisions as fair and called to the best of
their ability.
Never scold a child for making a mistake during a
competition.
Show respect for your team's opponents, without them there would
be no competition.
Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by not using bad
language and not harassing or talking negatively about gymnasts,
coaches or officials.
Remember, you are an ambassador for CYC.
